Wave Surfing in Maldives

The islands of Maldive is well known for it's marvelous reefs and marine life. Thus, divers read the name of these islands as " Maldives ", indeed this is the given name for the islands. However the surfers, pronounce it to read as "Malsurfs". During the last few years, the travelers to these islands have discovered the art of wave-surfing, for the energetic holiday makers.

The best seasons for wave-surfing is determined to a large extent by the monsoon circulation. Each year there are two monsoon seasons, they are; the North-East Monsoon (which we call; Iruvai ) and the South-East Monsoon (which is known as; Hulhangu ). The winds that can become quiet strong are from the SW-W-WN during the South-West Monsoon and N-NE-E during the North-East Monsoon.

Based on experience from past years, the best season for the mentioned 7 spots, is the North-East Monsoon and adjoining transition period till July.

Surfing safari operators have highly dedicated staff who would willingly assist you to ensure the best possible holiday experience. But despite the pleasantries, all surfers must understand that they have to be responsible for their safety. Callow moves may end up in injuries or accidents.

Head for a point where the prevailing breeze is offshore. Blowing into the waves, the winds will make them stand up nicely giving hollow tubes to cut through. For onshore winds, get an early start.

Huvadhoo Atoll Wave Surfing

Further to the mentioned 7 Surf spots, for the experienced and the bold - the surf points in Huvadhoo Atoll is a real challenge. These waves are young and untouched. Indeed this is the single biggest natural Atoll in "Malsurfs/Maldives", and lies at the edge of the two and half degree channel, which runs across Malsurfs/Maldives. All of our surf-visitors from abroad, who has visited these sites depict the spots much vigorous than what they found in the Malé Atoll.

The barriers to these sites are the travel distance & accommodation. There are no tourist resorts yet in these atolls. However two luxury live-aboards are to be found in these atolls. ‘Sultan of Madivaru' and ‘Sultan of Maldives' teams up to produce the ultimate floating resort for you.

Due to the establishment of a domestic Airport at the island of Ga'dhoo , having flights 4 to 5 days a week from Malé International Airport , the transport barrier has become a thing of the past. The flying time from Malé International Airport is about 1 hour 10 minutes.

Happy Riding !!!
